PART TWO: SPRING CONFERENCE
Thursday 21 – Tuesday 26 March 2024
New College, Oxford
The Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain (PESGB) and Liverpool Hope University (LHU) will be providing for a postgraduate cohort to attend a Summer School and Spring Conference on Educational Decision Making, led by Professors Brighouse, Loeb and Swift.
During the first event, the Summer School at Hope Park, Liverpool (22-26 July 2023), participants will attend classes exploring and applying the educational decision making framework defended in the lead tutors’ book, Educational Goods: Values, Evidence, and Decision-Making. Seminar sessions will be based on readings selected and distributed in advance. There will be plenty of opportunities for socializing and some sightseeing. After the Summer School, participants will develop draft papers to submit for the early December 2023 deadline for the PESGB’s Annual Meeting in March 2024 (acceptance is not guaranteed and will depend on successful peer review).
At the second event, the Spring Conference at New College, Oxford (21-26 March 2024), participants will present draft papers developed since the first event with the aim of submission to the PESGB’s Journal of Philosophy of Education (publication is not guaranteed and will depend on successful peer review). Participants will attend the PESGB’s annual meeting at New College within that period (22-24 March 2024). Participants must commit to attending both events and to working towards submitting a paper. Students will be assigned tutors to provide individualised career, research mentoring advice and support them in developing their papers.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for outstanding postgraduate students from around the world to engage with world renowned philosophers of education on two beautiful university campuses in historic and vibrant English cities.
